Village Board Proclamation
WHEREAS, for the second time in the past three years, under the direction of Chip De Stefano, Director of Bands, McCracken Middle School has demonstrated its excellence in Symphonic Band performance and has provided another example of the school’s exemplary music curriculum; and
WHEREAS, the McCracken Middle School Symphonic Band was named the honor band, which is the equivalent of first place, at the University of Illinois Superstate Concert Band Festival in 2000 and now in 2003; and
WHEREAS, the McCracken Symphonic Band played three songs at the invitation only state-wide contest on May 9, 2003, at the University of Illinois at Champaign and was selected as the outstanding middle school band; and
WHEREAS, as this year’s honor band, the McCracken Middle School Symphonic Band has been invited to perform at next year’s festival; and
WHEREAS, the McCracken students, who are members of the band, have demonstrated tremendous dedication, skill, and hard work, putting in long hours of practice, often arriving early in the morning before classes are in session to rehearse.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE VAN DUSEN, Mayor of the Village of Skokie, do
hereby proclaim May 19, 2003,
“McCRACKEN MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND DAY”
and congratulate District 73 ½ Superintendent Karen Campbell, McCracken Principal Vicki Gunther, Director of Bands Chip De Stefano and McCracken Middle School Symphonic Band members and wish these talented students much success in their future performances as they represent their school, the Village of Skokie, and all of its citizens.
