Oakview Concert Band Wins High Rating
Skokie Review – March 28, 1968
Division I ratings were won by 73 youngsters from District 72.5’s Oakview Junior High School Concert Band, on Saturday March 16th, at the Elm School, Elmwood Park, Illinois,
The Oakviewers, resplendent in their brand .new uniforms of burgundy jacket, white turtleneck sweaters, and dark trousers or skirts, competed in the District Band Contest sponsored by the Illinois Grade School Band and Orchestra Association. Oakview was one of 14 bands participating.
Oakview played “Burnished Brass” concert march by Cacavas; “Jederman” by Whear; and “Symphony No. 5 in E Minor” excerpts from the Finale by Dvorak, arranged by Walters. Three judges evaluated each band’s performance, rating each, band either Division I, II, or III. All bands receiving a Division I sat at the District Contest have the honor of competing in the State Band Contest to be held April 27th.
Don Stahlberg, Director of Instrumental Music in District 73.5, said he was pleased with his band’s Division I rating, and the judges’ comments were especially complimentary.
